Objective:
The task for this film was to use 3 rolls of 16mm film (roughly 9 minutes of footage) to create a cohesive narrative film.
Concept:
I decided to write a script about a young boy who struggles to process the trauma of his mother’s passing, and as a result, he crafts a story in his mind to better understand it.
Because we were shooting on 16mm film, recording dialogue is very difficult. So, I knew that the majority of this film would be silent and would rely on the actions and facial expressions of the actors to convey the story. This meant that the screenplay had to accurately inform the actors of what emotions to display and when, while also giving them room to experiment with their characters.
Results:
The film went into production and has now been shot, edited, and submitted to film festivals.
